Junior Jake Collette-Nippins led a stellar performance by the Rutgers University-Camden men’s tennis team as it swept a pair of matches at Albertus Magnus College on Saturday in New Haven, Connecticut. While all of the Scarlet Raptors won their matches in the 9-0, 9-0 victories, Collette-Nippins was the only one to earn shutouts in all of his matches. He won his first match at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-0 and took the second match, 8-0, at fifth singles. Collette-Nippins also teamed with Khoa Ly at third doubles to win both matches by 8-0 scores. The first match was the Raptors’ season opener in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play, while the second counted as a non-conference match that both teams wanted to play due to the rash of rainouts and postponements on their schedules. The sweep left the Raptors with a 3-4 overall record. Collette-Nippins owns a 3-4 record at fifth singles this season and is 4-3 at third doubles, teaming with Ly. A third-year member of the Rutgers-Camden tennis program, Collette-Nippins was the lone Raptor to post an overall winning record last season, going a combined 11-10 (5-5 singles, including 5-4 at sixth singles and 0-1 at fourth singles, and 6-5 in doubles play, including 6-4 at third doubles and 0-1 at second doubles) to help his team earn its first berth ever in the GNAC playoffs.
