Matt Gross finished his junior season with the outdoor track team as an All-American in the javelin, finishing sixth of 20 in the event with a personal record of 60.75 meters on May 23 at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio. He broke his own short-lived PR of 60.04 meters, established while winning the javelin championship at the ECAC Championships May 15. Gross became the 36th NCAA All-American at Rutgers-Camden and the 12th in men’s track and field. Nine of those 12 came in outdoor track, with Gross becoming the first to accomplish outdoor track All-American status since Matt Curtis did it in the 400 intermediate hurdles in 2014. Gross becomes the second person to earn All-America honors in the javelin at Rutgers-Camden. Tim VanLiew did it three times, from 2011-13, including back-to-back national championships in 2012 and 2013. The All-American honor also earned Gross recognition on Monday as the New Jersey Athletic Conference's Field Athlete of the Week for Men's Outdoor Track & Field.
