Rutgers-Camden designated hitter Jack Murphy helped the Scarlet Raptors’ baseball team post a 3-0 week, raising its record to 7-1, by hitting .625 (5-for-8) with three runs and six RBIs last week. He went 1-for-1 as a pinch-hitter against Penn State-Abington (March 4) before a huge 4-for-5 game with three runs, four RBIs, a double and a triple at York College of Pennsylvania (March 6). Although he went 0-for-2 in a win over nationally-ranked Cortland on Sunday, he walked and delivered two sacrifice flies, including the game-tying sacrifice fly in the first inning. For the week he posted a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .545 on-base percentage. For the season, Murphy is batting .370 with nine RBIs, eight runs and a team-leading four doubles. He has a .593 slugging percentage and a .429 on-base percentage. During his brilliant Scarlet Raptor career, he ranks among the program’s all-time leaders in numerous categories, including second in home runs (20), one behind the career record. The graduate student also is third in HBP (35), fifth in RBIs (114), total bases (236) and games played (146) and tied for fifth in doubles (35).
