Rowland, Applegate lead offensive explosion

Box Score Camden, NJ (Oct. 3, 2013) – The Rutgers-Camden volleyball team hosted NJAC rival William Paterson University on Thursday. The Scarlet Raptors beat the Pioneers 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-22).

Head Coach Matt Dever on the New Jersey Athletic Conference win, "This was a fun match to watch. The girls came out ready to play today."

Freshman outside hitter, Cari Applegate (Stratford, NJ/Sterling) recorded a season high 12 kills. Olivia Rowland (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) also notched her season high with 12 kills on 17 attempts and only 1 error with .647 hitting percentage. Sydney Allen (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) dominated on defense with 1 solo block and 2 block assists. Allen is currently second on the team with 30 blocks this season.

"Deuce was just on fire tonight. To have a hitting percentage of .647 is just unbelievable. That was the 3rd highest hitting percentage in school history," Head Coach Matt Dever. "Our setters were on point and when that happens you get to see the power game that these girls have. When players like Cari, Sydney and Cortnee start cranking the ball it is hard to stop them."

Setters Michelle Dixon (Sicklerville, NJ/Eastern) and Brooke Hassan (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) each produced 18 assists. Melanie Kaiser (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) had a game high 17 digs, while Cortnee Wilkerson (Los Angeles, CA/West Adams Prep) tallied 16.

Coach Dever "When our setters spread the ball around like they did tonight it allows for a lot of one on one blocking and our hitters took advantage of the excellent job that Dixon and Hasson did."

Rutgers-Camden (2-16, NJAC 1-2) will host Arcadia University on Saturday, October 5th.
