Welsh, Macaluso power Raptors over St. Norbert

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Rutgers University-Camden softball team bounced back from a loss earlier Wednesday at the Dot Richardson Spring Games to post a 6-1 victory over St. Norbert College in a night game.

Junior designated player Devon Welsh (Maple Shade, NJ/Audubon) powered the Scarlet Raptors' 10-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with a triple, one RBI and a stolen base. Freshman first baseman Jessea Macaluso (Charlotte, NC/Allentown) went 2-for-4 with a double, one run and three RBIs, while senior catcher Tabby Dick (Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City)

went 2-for-2 with two walks and one run scored.

Sophomore pitcher Brittany Scott (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) earned the win with a seven-hitter, allowing one walk and one earned run. She struck out eight in raising her record to 4-2.

The Scarlet Raptors, who lost to McDaniel College earlier in the day, improve to 5-3.

St. Norbert, coming off a win over Scranton earlier Wednesday, falls to 2-5.

Rutgers-Camden put the game away early, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Tabby Dick drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second by sophomore second baseman Cait Eltzholtz (Bellmawr, NJ/Gloucester Catholic). After Scott walked, sophomore third baseman Katie Larson (Delran, NJ/Delran) lined a RBI single.

Macaluso singled in two more runs and, after sophomore centerfielder Lindsay Day (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) reached on an infield single, Welsh plated the fourth run with a single.

The Raptors added two more runs in the fifth on a RBI double by Macaluso and a run-scoring fielder's choice by Day.

The Green Knights scored their lone run in the sixth off of Scott on a RBI double by senior first baseman Abby Gildernick (De Pere, WI/West De Pere).

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Friday at the Dot Richardson Spring Games, facing SUNY-Potsdam at 3 p.m. and Hamline University at 7 p.m.
