Raptors split NJAC doubleheader at Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers University-Camden and Richard Stockton College softball teams locked up in a pair of pitchers' duels here Wednesday in a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader, and after a total of five runs were scored in the two games, the teams ended up with a split.

The Ospreys won the first game, 1-0, before the Scarlet Raptors took a 3-1 victory in the nightcap.

Rutgers-Camden is 15-10-1 overall and 7-5 in the NJAC. Stockton is 17-9 and 6-6.

Rutgers-Camden entertains NJAC opponent William Paterson University Friday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.

The Scarlet Raptors dropped a heartbreaker in the opening game as Stockton senior Michelle Pietrocola (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) hurled a five-hit shutout to outduel Rutgers-Camden sophomore

reached base on an error. Scott followed with a single and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Sophomore centerfielder Lindsay Day (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) ripped a two-run single to left field and advanced on the throw home. Day scored on a single to left by sophomore third baseman Katie Larson (Delran, NJ/Delran).

Scott finished with a six-hitter, allowing just one walk and one unearned run. She struck out one as she raised her record to 13-8.

Stockton junior starter Brittany Ksiezopolski (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) took the loss, working 2.2 innings and allowing six hits, three walks and three runs, two of them earned. Ksiezopolski (7-5) struck out five.

Pietrocola worked the final 4.1 shutout innings, allowing three hits and one walk. She struck out five

Day and Welsh both went 2-for-3 for the Scarlet Raptors, with Day adding one run and two RBIs.
