Box Score CAMDEN, N.J. – Senior Tom Potts (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Regional) worked eight strong innings to raise his record to 3-0 and the Rutgers University-Camden baseball team took advantage of 12 hits, seven walks, three hit batsmen and two errors to defeat New Jersey City University, 15-5, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Thursday afternoon.

It was the sixth win in the last seven games for the Scarlet Raptors, who improve to 11-5-1 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC. The Gothic Knights, who had won five straight games, fall to 6-9 overall and 0-1 in their first conference game.

Potts scattered nine hits and allowed one walk and two runs – one earned – for the Scarlet Raptors, while striking out one. The runs were the first Potts has allowed in 24 innings this season, with the earned run taking his ERA to 0.38.

Two hits in the third inning, including a RBI single by sophomore catcher Andrew Niech (Avenel, NJ/Colonia), gave the Gothic Knights a brief 1-0 lead. The Scarlet Raptors, however, bounced back with two in the bottom of the fourth and kept on scoring from there. The fourth-inning rally included a two-run single by junior first baseman
Matt Giampetro
(Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West),
who entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning and stroked a single, then added a RBI double in the eighth.

The Gothic Knights collected 14 hits on the day, including five in a three-run ninth inning. Freshman Dan Berardi (Bridgewater, NJ/Middlesex) led the attack with three hits. Junior Michael Martucci (Bayonne, NJ/Saint Peter's Prep), freshman Eric Giordano (Metuchen, NJ/JFK-Iselin) and Niech added two apiece.

Both teams will complete their home-and-home series Friday with a 3:30 p.m. game at NJCU.
