Scarlet Raptors topple Lancaster Bible women, 4-1

Box Score

LANCASTER, Penn. (Oct. 4, 2017) – Sophomore midfielder Sarah Zuzulock (National Park, NJ/Gateway Regional) and freshman forward Meghan Wachira (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro North) both collected a pair of goals to lead the Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer team over Lancaster Bible College, 4-1, in a non-conference game here Wednesday afternoon.

With its second straight victory, Rutgers-Camden improved to 5-6, while Lancaster Bible College fell to 2-7-1. It was the first meeting between the two teams since 2007 and raised Rutgers-Camden's all-time record against Lancaster Bible to 5-0.

Zuzulock, who also added one assist in the game, put the Scarlet Raptors ahead to stay with the game's first goal at 4:21, assisted by senior midfielder Kaitlyn Ennis (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington), pictured above.

Later in the opening half, Wachira headed in her ninth goal at the far left post after a cross by senior forward Cassidy McSorley (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) skimmed off the crossbar and right down to her waiting head. The tally proved be the game-winning goal, allowing Wachira to tie the program's single-season record set by Heather Greenwald in 2003. She owns all five of the team's game-winning goals this year.

Rutgers-Camden held an 8-2 advantage in shots during the opening half and an 18-6 margin for the game. The Raptors also held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks during the contest.

Early in the second half, Ennis and Zuzulock strung passes together to feed Wachira for another goal, giving her 10 on the season. It is the most goals at Rutgers-Camden since Samantha Sharp had 10 in 2010. With her two assists on the day, Ennis doubled her season output to four. It also gave Zuzulock her fourth assist of the season.

Midway through the second half, Chargers freshman midfielder Karissa Akselsen (Wall, NJ/Calvary Christian) took a feed at the top of the box from sophomore midfielder Kate Spiezio (Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas Johnson) and looped a high shot into the goal near the right post. It was her first career goal.

Zuzulock added a breakaway goal at 79:47, assisted by junior midfielder Melissa Peel (Gibbstown, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology). It was her fifth goal of the season and the team-leading fifth assist for Peel.

Junior Liz DiCamillo (Blackwood, NJ/Triton Regional) picked up the victory in goal for the Scarlet Raptors, raising her record to 2-0. She made two saves.

Lancaster Bible sophomore goalie Rheena Miles (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) allowed all four goals and made five saves in 85:14 minutes of playing time. Freshman keeper Kendra Brown (Ulster, PA/Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School) finished up the game for the Chargers without needing to make a save.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday when it plays a 1 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference game at New Jersey City University.
