WAYNE, N.J. (Oct. 4, 2018) – It took nine days before the Rutgers University-Camden and William Paterson University volleyball teams were finally able to play their New Jersey Athletic Conference match.
When the Scarlet Raptors made a return trip to Wayne, New Jersey, Thursday night, the Pioneers swept Rutgers-Camden, 3-0. William Paterson won by scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-23. The match was rescheduled from Sept. 25, when condensation on the Pioneers' court made for unsafe playing conditions.
The Pioneers improve to 14-1 overall and 3-1 in the NJAC with their fourth straight win. Rutgers-Camden, which had won three straight matches and four of its last five, falls to 6-11 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Rutgers-Camden is 8-10 in its all-time series against William Paterson and had won matches the last three years before Thursday's defeat.
Alyson Toman paced the Pioneers with 13 kills, while Kendall Caruso had 27 assists.
Rutgers-Camden collected 42 kills in the match, led by sophomore
Alyson Lowe (12 kills) and junior sisters
Morgan Mulligan (11) and
Jamie Mulligan (7). Lowe,
pictured above, added four digs.
Morgan Mulligan hit .348 on the day (11 kills, three errors in 23 attacks). She also added nine digs, two service aces and one block assist.
Freshmen
Brinn Hassan and
Kayla Benesz had 18 and 12 assists, respectively, for the Scarlet Raptors. Freshman
Morgan Fox added seven assists and a team-high 21 digs.
Hassan also had 10 assists and a team-leading six service aces.
Jamie Mulligan added seven digs.
Rutgers-Camden will host a tri-match Saturday, facing Alvernia University at 11 a.m. and Shenandoah University at 3 p.m. Alvernia and Shenandoah play the middle match at 1 p.m.
