Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Greene joins 1,000-point club on way to all-tournament honor

ASTON, Penn. (Nov. 18, 2018) – Senior guard Gabby Greene etched her name into the program record books once again and the Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team followed the lead of its captain as it defeated Hood College, 78-65, in the consolation game of the Neumann University Tip-Off Tournament here Sunday afternoon.

In the title game, host Neumann University edged Western New England University, 69-66.

Greene scored 24 points on her way to becoming the 13th player in program history to join the career 1,000-point club. She joined the exclusive club on a three-point field goal with 3:59 remaining in the second quarter to give her nine points on the day and 1,001 for her career.

Greene, who earned a berth on the all-tournament team, hiked her career total to 1,016 points by the end of the game. She is only 21 points away from 12th-place Andrea Fogel on the all-time list, who totaled 1,037 points from 1986-89. The last person to reach the 1,000-point milestone was Greene's former teammate Michelle Obasi, who accomplished the feat last season on her way to 1,193 career points (eighth on the all-time program list).

Greene scored all her points on three-pointers, a fitting scenario considering the fact that she is the program's top three-point shooter ever. Greene went 8-for-15 in three-point shooting against Hood, an amazing accomplishment that is only the second-best three-point game of her collegiate career. She holds the program's single-game mark for treys with an 11-for-15 performance against Rowan University Jan. 25, 2017. She also is the program's single-season three-point record holder (82 during the 2016-17 campaign) and career leader (now 224 and counting).

Rutgers-Camden (3-1) built a 21-14 lead after one quarter, only to watch Hood roar back into a 27-21 lead. The Scarlet Raptors rattled off an 18-4 run to finish the half, taking the lead for good at 34-31 on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Jordan Harbaugh. The final 78-65 score was the Raptors' biggest lead of the game.

Greene added four assists and three steals to her game-high 24 points.

Freshman guard Wykira Johnson-Kelly collected her first collegiate double-double for the Raptors, notching 18 points and adding 10 rebounds. Harbaugh finished with 14 points, four boards, two assists and two steals, while senior guard/forward Ariel Robinson had seven points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Junior guard Fatimah Williams netted eight points and sophomore guard Shane Holmes collected five points, five assists and three steals.

Hood placed four players in double figures, led by Tamiya Ford, who collected 19 points and eight rebounds. Mia Savoy had 15 points and seven boards, while Maggie Tien scored 13 points and Deaja Colden added 10.

Rutgers-Camden hosts Rowan University Tuesday at 6 p.m. in its first New Jersey Athletic Conference game of the season.
