GALLOWAY, N.J. (April 10, 2018) – For 3-1/2 innings here Tuesday, everything was going well for the Rutgers University-Camden softball team in the opener of its New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader against Stockton University.
In the bottom of the fourth, however, a no-hitter and a 1-0 lead vanished in a hurry. Stockton exploded for eight hits and nine runs and went on to capture a pair of five-inning games decided by the eight-run rule, 9-1 and 12-0.
The Ospreys, who have won six of their last seven games, improved to 17-9 overall and 4-2 in the NJAC. Rutgers-Camden fell to 9-10 and 2-4.
The Scarlet Raptors play host to Rutgers-Newark Saturday in a 6 p.m. NJAC doubleheader.

Raptor junior
Kendra Pfister (Dacula, GA/Dacula) retired the first eight batters she faced and took a no-hitter into the fourth inning, allowing only one Osprey to reach base via a walk in that span. At that point, Rutgers-Camden was clinging to a 1-0 lead, courtesy of a second-inning run which saw Pfister single home senior first baseman
Mariah Hans (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights), who had reached on a one-out double.
The momentum quickly shifted in the fourth inning. Leadoff hitter Alexa Massa broke up the no-hitter with a single up the middle. Another single and a one-out error loaded the bases for Ashley Lobell, whose two-run single put the Ospreys ahead to stay. Lobell sent 15 batters to the plate in the frame, which included eight Stockton hits, two walks, a hit batsman and an error. Lobell, one of three Ospreys with a pair of hits in the inning, collected three RBIs in the frame.
Hannah Bibeault, who earned NJAC Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday, raised her record to 10-1, tossing four innings of three-hit ball while walking one, striking out four and allowing one earned run.
Stockton 12, Rutgers-Camden 0 (5 innings)
Stockton took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and blew the game open with an 11-run third inning. The Ospreys' big frame was aided by eight hits, including a three-run double by Daniela Marinaro and a grand slam by Casey Schieda.
Schieda went 2-for-3 with five RBIs in the game.
Rutgers-Camden collected only two hits in the game. Both were singles by junior left fielder
Kacie Pisani (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights), pictured above.
