Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Raptors blank NJCU in unexpected home game

CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 29, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team received an unexpected home game when its scheduled Saturday game at New Jersey City University was switched to Camden late on Friday afternoon, due to the Gothic Knights' unplayable field.

The Scarlet Raptors took advantage of their home turf in a Saturday morning Homecoming Day game as they blanked NJCU, 2-0, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action.

The Scarlet Raptors hiked their record to 7-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference with their fourth consecutive win. The Gothic Knights fell to 5-5 and 0-4.

Rutgers-Camden now leads its all-time series with NJCU, 26-8-8, including seven straight wins and a 12-0-4 mark since the Gothic Knights' last win, 5-0 in Camden on Sept. 24, 2005.

The Scarlet Raptors outshot the Gothic Knights, 18-8, and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Senior goalie James Brett made four saves to register his second shutout of the year and the 16th of his career. Gothic Knight keeper Aldahir Cazun had eight saves and also was aided by a pair of backsaves.

Rutgers-Camden scored the only goal it needed at the 21:58 mark, following a pass toward the right post by junior midfielder Chris Taraska. Freshman forward Sinan Tuzcu, pictured above, beat his defender to the ball to finish his second collegiate goal. It was his first game-winning tally.

The Scarlet Raptors added an insurance tally at 55:32 when sophomore forward Skyler Diggs found junior midfielder Patrick Grudnik with a pass to the left post. Grudnik popped a high shot into the net for his fourth goal of the season.

The Scarlet Raptors are scheduled to return to action Tuesday with a 4 p.m. non-conference game at Haverford College.
