COLLEGEVILLE, Penn. (Oct. 23, 2019) – The Ursinus College women's soccer team held Rutgers University-Camden to four shots – two of them on goal – as the Bears defeated the Scarlet Raptors, 2-0, here Wednesday night.
The victory lifts the Bears to 4-8-2, snapping a four-game losing streak and an 0-8-1 skid.
The Scarlet Raptors, who had won two of their last three games, fall to 5-10. They are 2-2 in their all-time series against the Bears.
Ursinus scored the only goal it needed at 14:04 on an unassisted strike by sophomore forward Kelly Gardus. It was the third goal of the season for Gardus.
Sophomore back Kayla O'Malley added an insurance tally at 83:22, assisted by sophomore back Gracia DiBianco.
Ursinus out-shot Rutgers-Camden, 10-4, and had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Junior keeper Sabrina Doherty earned the Bears' shutout with two saves, while Raptor sophomore
Natalie Eberhardt made one save.
Freshmen
Lauren Bone and
Sam Justis accounted for the Raptors' lone shots on goal with one apiece.
Rutgers-Camden returns home Saturday to host William Paterson University in a 1 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference game. The Scarlet Raptors will celebrate Senior Day and honor a trio of departing players in
Taylor O'Rourke, Meghan Wachira and
Sarah Zuzulock.
