Rutgers-Camden lacrosse drops final game at Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. (April 27, 2019) – With the Rutgers University-Camden and Ramapo College lacrosse teams both trying to snap long losing streaks and escape the New Jersey Athletic Conference cellar in the final game of the year for both teams, the Scarlet Raptors watched the Roadrunners score the first eight goals of the game here Saturday. Ramapo went on to register a 17-3 victory for its lone win of the year in NJAC play.

Nicole Jaskot scored a goal 3:23 into the game to give Ramapo the lead for good. By the end of the Roadrunners' opening explosion, Jaskot, Gabi Davidson and Shannon Eagan had scored two goals apiece.

Ramapo closes its season 7-8 overall and 1-5 in the NJAC, snapping a six-game losing streak. Rutgers-Camden, which lost its final eight games, ends the season at 4-11 overall and 0-6 in the conference.

Rutgers-Camden didn't get on the board until the 21:27 mark when freshman midfielder Claire Gailliout scored her 36th goal of the season on a free position shot. Gailliout scored another goal with 1:39 remaining in the half, making it an 8-2 game.

Ramapo got that goal back 26 seconds before halftime on a shot by Kate Klinger and the Roadrunners added a goal by Molly Warner with five seconds left in the opening half to take a 10-2 lead at the break. Ramapo out-shot Rutgers-Camden, 28-5, in the opening half and 49-15 for the game.

Davidson, Eagan and Ava Rinaldi scored three goals apiece for Ramapo, while Davidson also added three assists, eight ground balls, three draw controls and seven caused turnovers. Eagan added two assists. Jaskot and Beth McGraw both notched two goals and one assist for three points.

Molly Warner had one goal, one assist, one ground ball, two caused turnovers and a game-high six draw controls.

Gailliout, pictured above, collected all three goals for the Scarlet Raptors to finish her season with 38 goals and team-leading totals of 17 assists and 55 points.

Senior midfielder Cara Racobaldo notched the Raptors' lone assist on the day, while adding two ground balls and one draw control in her final game.

Junior defender Kacie Walton collected three ground balls and four caused turnovers to set herself up for a record-breaking senior season next year. Walton raised her career total to 69 ground balls, tying the program record set by Megan Everett (2015-18). She also moved into second place on the career list with 124 ground balls, breaking the tie for second she shared with Holly Cusick (2013-16). Walton will enter her senior year only 13 ground balls shy of the program record, also held by Everett.

Goalie Alexandra Kerwin finished with eight saves for the Roadrunners.

Rutgers-Camden sophomore goalie Brittany Watson faced 49 shots, with 36 on goal, and made 19 saves, one shy of her single-game program record set against Manhattanville on March 30. The shots faced were the third-highest total a Rutgers-Camden goalie has ever faced, with Watson holding the top two spots as well, including the mark of 51 against Stockton on April 18.

Watson finished the year with single-season records for saves (170) and shots faced (523).
