CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 7, 2019) – The Rutgers University-Camden and Washington (MD) College women's soccer teams saw their scheduled game postponed by lightning here Wednesday night, but it didn't take long to find a common makeup date.
The two teams met here Saturday morning and this time it was Washington sophomore forward Erin O'Reilly providing the lightning strikes. O'Reilly scored a pair of first-half goals to lead the Shorewomen (3-0) over the Scarlet Raptors (0-2), 2-0, in a non-conference game.
Washington College, based in Chestertown, Maryland, scored only 2:09 into the contest as freshman forward Gillian Slavick hit a through ball that sprung O'Reilly on a breakaway. She finished the play with a shot into the left side of the net for her third goal of the season.
O'Reilly struck again in the 31st minute, this time assisted from the left side by a pass from senior midfielder Cayla Marcinko.
The Shorewomen finished the game with a 15-6 advantage in shots, including a 9-3 margin in the second half. They also had four corner kicks, while holding Rutgers-Camden without a corner.
Sophomore keeper
Natalie Eberhardt made five saves for the Scarlet Raptors. Junior goalie Annalie Buscarino and sophomore keeper Noah Smith each played one half for the Shorewomen. Buscarino made one save and picked up the win playing the opening half. Smith had two saves in the second half in the combination shutout.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Sunday when they host Shenandoah University at 11 a.m.
