BRYN MAWR, Penn. (March 10, 2020) – Rutgers University-Camden senior defender
Kacie Walton and junior goalie
Brittany Watson both set a program career record here Tuesday as the Scarlet Raptors' lacrosse team dropped a 19-7 non-conference game against Bryn Mawr College.
The Owls raced to a 13-5 halftime lead on the way to raising their record to 5-0.
Rutgers-Camden fell to 0-2.
Walton notched a game-high five caused turnovers to raise her career total to 74. She had entered the season tied for the career record at 69 with Megan Everett (2015-18). Walton's five caused turnovers also were one shy of the program's single-game mark of six, shared by three players. The last to accomplish that feat was Everett against Ramapo on April 28, 2018.
Watson, meanwhile, made 11 saves to hike her career total to 301. She passed the old career mark of 299, held by Rachel Powell (2010-12). While facing 36 shots, she also hiked her career total to 990, only 65 shy of Powell's record in that category.
Bryn Mawr tallied a goal by Sloan Johnson only 42 seconds into the game and added a tally by Isabel Shin 37 seconds later. Sophomore midfielder
Claire Gailliout scored a goal for Rutgers-Camden at 3:25 to cut the gap to 2-1, but Johnson added another goal at 3:58, making it a 3-1 game.
The Scarlet Raptors countered with four straight goals – two by Gailliout sandwiched around two by sophomore midfielder
Jazmin Torres – in a span of 4:44 to grab a 5-3 lead. Bryn Mawr closed out the half with the final 10 goals, taking the lead for good at 6-5 on a tally by Kylie Woo at 12:15.
Woo finished with five goals and two assists for the Owls, while Johnson had four goals and Shin added three. Bryn Mawr goalkeepers Jessica Calloway and Elizabeth Thompkins combined for five saves, with Calloway earning the win and making three saves while playing the first 38:22.
Gailliout led the Scarlet Raptor attack, scoring five goals for the second straight game. Torres added two goals and sophomore midfielder
Carly Gregg notched the team's lone assist. Gregg also had three draw controls, while Torres added two.
In addition to Walton's five caused turnovers, senior defender
Caitlyn Snyder collected two caused turnovers.
