JERSEY CITY, N.J. (March 9, 2021) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team collected 36 kills and hit .352 overall as it rolled to its second three-set sweep in three matches this season here Tuesday night.
The Scarlet Raptors swept host New Jersey City University, 25-11, 25-20 and 25-7, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match.
Rutgers-Camden improves to 2-1 overall and in the NJAC. New Jersey City, which had its season-opening match wiped out due to COVID protocols in the conference, falls to 0-2 and 0-2.
The Scarlet Raptors never trailed in the first set, being tied only once at 1-1. From there, the Raptors surged to an 8-1 lead before the Gothic Knights fought back within two points, 9-7. Rutgers-Camden, however, scored 16 of the next 20 points to close out the set. Junior middle hitter
Devyn Cobb led the way with five kills in five attempts.
The Scarlet Raptors hung on to win a close second set, 25-20, before scoring the first seven points of the third set on the way to a 25-7 clincher.
Freshman outside hitter
Erica Nebrich collected 10 kills, hit .316, added four aces, four digs and one block assist for the Raptors. Junior middle hitter
Devyn Cobb had a phenomenal hitting performance with eight kills and no errors in nine attempts for a lofted .889 percentage. Cobb added one block assist and one dig.
Freshman middle/outside hitter
Isabella Choice notched two solo blocks, while adding seven kills.
A pair of juniors, outside hitter
Delaney Kolb and libero
Morgan Fox, notched nine digs apiece. Kolb added four kills and two service aces.
Junior setter
Brinn Hassan delivered 23 assists, four kills and six digs, while hitting .571. Junior defensive specialist
Haley Novak added six digs, one assist and one service ace.
For NJCU, freshman middle blocker Taylor-Michelle Coriolan collected eight kills, hit .400 and added four digs. Freshman setter Sydney Lore had 11 assists.
The Scarlet Raptors host Montclair State University Thursday at 7 p.m.
