CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 25, 2021) – A strong defense has been a staple for the Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer team all season long, but the Scarlet Raptors are still waiting for the offense to catch up.
Rutgers-Camden had the statistical advantage in its New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday, but defenses ruled the day as the Scarlet Raptors played to a 0-0 double-overtime tie against Kean University.
The tie leaves Rutgers-Camden with a 1-5-1 record overall and a 0-1-1 mark in the NJAC, while Kean stands at 3-3-2 and 1-0-1. The shutout marked the fifth straight against the Scarlet Raptors, during which time they have gone 0-4-1, with three of the losses coming in overtime by 1-0 scores and the other coming 2-0 on the road at the nation's fifth-ranked team, Messiah.
Kean leads the all-time series, 14-6-4, but Rutgers-Camden is 4-0-1 in the last five series contests.
The Scarlet Raptors managed to hit the crossbar twice and send a few other dangerous crosses through the box. They finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Scarlet Raptor sophomore goalie
Chloe Beasley finished with two saves, while Kean freshman keeper Julia Masucci had five saves.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday when it plays a 7 p.m. NJAC game at Stockton University.
