Lily Beck...scored all four points for the women
Komatsu sets pole vault mark at Collegeville Classic
COLLEGEVILLE, Penn. (Jan. 22, 2022) – One day after sending a trio of their top throwers to Staten Island for the NYC Gotham Cup, the Rutgers University-Camden Scarlet Raptors sent the rest of their indoor track team to Ursinus College to compete in the Collegeville College.
Although Rutgers-Camden finished last among all scoring teams (11th for the men with five points and 12th for the women with four points), the Scarlet Raptors turned in several fine performances.
Freshman
Ken Komatsu accounted for all of the points for the men, finishing fourth of 10 athletes with a record-setting pole vault of 3.65 meters (11-11.75). His pole vault broke the program record of 3.52 meters (11-6.50) set by Andrew Giordano at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 23, 2009.
On the women's side,
Lily Beck, a junior academically with sophomore eligibility for indoor track, accounted for all of the women's points. She finished fifth of seven athletes in the high jump (1.35 meters).
Freshman
Evelyn Macias had a fine day for the women, finishing ninth of 31 in the 60-meter dash preliminaries (8.67), placing 10th of 14 in the finals (8.73) and finishing 12th of 41 athletes in the 200-meter dash (29.18).
Two other freshmen,
Bree Smith and
Francis Hill, also ran both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Smith was 18th at 60 meters (9.19) and 35th at 200 (33.36), while Hill was 22nd at 60 meters (9.43) and 33rd at 200 (33.18).
On the men's side, junior
Andrew Barnhardt finished 13th of 20 runners at 3,000 meters (9:59.57), while sophomore
Naseem Shreim finished 10th of 22 in the long jump (5.47 meters) and 32nd of 35 in the 400-meter dash (1:04.27).
Senior
Christopher Townsend made his Scarlet Raptor debut, finishing 18th of 31 in the mile (4:54.92) and 20th of 35 in the 400-meter dash (59.08).
