CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 12, 2022) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer team gave a determined effort here Wednesday night in its New Jersey Athletic Conference game, but unfortunately for the Scarlet Raptors, they were up against one of the top teams in the NJAC and the nation.
Freshman forward Olivia Giordano scored a goal in each half to lead Rowan University over Rutgers-Camden, 2-0.
The Profs improved to 5-0 in the conference and retain a share of the NJAC lead along with The College of New Jersey. Rowan, which received votes toward both of the Division III national Top 25 polls this week, improves to 9-0-2 overall.
Rutgers-Camden fell to 4-6-2 overall and suffered its first NJAC loss, dropping to 3-1-1 in the conference.
Giordano scored only 6:54 into the game, taking a pass to the left side of the box from senior Natalie Pantalone and drilling a shot into the upper right corner. Rowan, which controlled most of the first half, nearly had another goal in the half when a shot went off the crossbar.
The Profs finished with an 11-1 advantage in shots and an 8-0 margin in corner kicks. The Raptors' lone shot, a first-half strike by sophomore
Josie Jackson-Conner, was easily saved by Rowan sophomore keeper Calista Burke.
Giordano added her second goal of the game, and eighth of the season, in the 65th minute in similar fashion to the first one. She took a feed from freshman Lianna SanFelice and angled a shot from the left side into the back right of the goal.
Rutgers-Camden junior goalie
Kayla McKeever finished with four saves.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. game at Rutgers-Newark.
