CAMDEN, N.J. (Feb. 5, 2022) – Junior guard Nickie Carter scored 26 points, including 18 in the opening half, as the Montclair State University women's basketball team defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 74-51, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday afternoon.
The victory lifted the Red Hawks to 13-7 overall and 11-4 in the NJAC, while Rutgers-Camden fell to 2-14 and 1-14.
Montclair State has won its last six games against Rutgers-Camden and leads the all-time series, 49-17.
The game was tied at 2-2 and 4-4 before the Red Hawks went on a six-point run to take the lead for good. A Jumper by senior guard Julia Sutton broke the tie.
The Scarlet Raptors cut their first-quarter deficit to 13-10 and 15-12 before the Red Hawks scored eight of the next 11 points to close out the quarter with a 23-14 lead. They led by 37-29 at halftime before putting the game away with a 23-12 third-quarter run.
In addition to Carter, Montclair State received 10 points from Sutton and placed 10 players in the scoring column. Senior guard Trisha Peterson grabbed 14 rebounds, scored seven points and added game-high totals of six assists and five steals. Freshman forward Olivia Vero blocked six shots.

Montclair State held a 37-35 edge off the boards and shot 28-for-59 (47.5 percent) from the floor. The Scarlet Raptors shot 18-for-50 (36.0).
Rutgers-Camden plays a 6 p.m. NJAC game at William Paterson University Wednesday.
