Raptors win five events, set two records at ECAC Championships
NEW HAVEN, CT (May 18, 2022) – Rutgers University-Camden won five individual events as the Scarlet Raptors opened competition at the ECAC Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships Wednesday at Southern Connecticut State University.
Freshman
Tobias Prall and senior
Emily Hilt broke their own program records while winning the men's triple jump and women's hammer throw, respectively. Tobias also won the men's javelin competition, while junior
Jason Hyland captured the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase and junior
Andrew Barnhardt won the 10,000-meter run.
Prall's triple jump of 13.72 meters helped him finish first out of six athletes and broke his own program record of 13.59 meters, set April 1 on the first day of the Danny Curran Invitational. He also finished first of four athletes in the javelin throw with a distance of 50.36 meters.
Hilt placed first of 10 athletes with a hammer throw of 52.42 meters. She shattered her old program record of 51.53 meters set April 2 on the second day of the Danny Curran Invitational. Sophomore
Alexis Marini finished third in the event with a PR of 45.31 meters.
Hyland and senior
Christopher Townsend finished first and second, respectively, in the five-man field of the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Hyland posted a time of 10:54.99, while Townsend notched a clocking of 11:15.88.
Barnhardt won the 10,000-meter run with a 36:33.60 clocking in the eight-man field.
Both Hyland and Barnhardt also participated on the men's 4x400 relay, which finished second out of two teams in a time of 4:24.61. They were joined by freshman
Marsel Chavarria and junior
Nate Harris.
The Scarlet Raptors will conclude their trip to the ECAC Championships on Thursday.
