ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2022) – The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team scored an early goal and made it hold up in a non-conference game as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0, here Tuesday night.
The Blue Jays improved to 3-2, while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 0-3-1.
The Blue Jays scored early as freshman forward Skyler Mumford found the net with a low shot to the center of the goal only 9:58 into the contest. She was assisted by sophomore forward Marissa Vandernick.
Elizabethtown took the first seven shots of the game, but by halftime, it was Rutgers-Camden that was applying constant pressure and the Raptors had cut their shot deficit to 7-6. The Scarlet Raptors also held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks in the opening half, while both goalies, Raptor junior
Kayla McKeever and Blue Jays senior Trinity Soto, had three saves apiece.
The action picked up for both teams in the second half, with the host team launching 11 shots and the Scarlet Raptors notching seven, keeping both Soto and the Raptors' second-half goalie, sophomore
Michaela Graham, busy. Both teams had chances to score, but Graham made eight saves and Soto had five, with both keepers making some key stops. Soto finished the night with eight saves. Graham and McKeever combined for 11 saves.
The Scarlet Raptors play another non-conference road game Saturday when they travel to Albright College for a 5 p.m. start.
