UNION, N.J. (Oct. 28, 2023) – The Kean University men's soccer team scored a goal in the 20th minute and that was all the third-seeded Cougars needed to eliminate sixth-seed Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0, in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs here Saturday.
Kean, ranked 21st in the nation, improves to 11-1-6 and advances to the NJAC semifinals, where it will play at second-seeded Rowan University Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Rutgers-Camden closes its season at 8-8-3.
Kean, which peaked as high as 14th in the national poll this season on Oct. 10, defeated Rutgers-Camden by a 2-0 score in a regular-season game on Oct. 7. This time the Cougars won with a one-goal margin, courtesy of senior forward Sadeikl Roberts, who notched his seventh goal of the season at 19:27. He was assisted by Ivan Garcia.
Kean held 14-11 edge in shots, including a 5-2 margin in shots on goal. Sophomore
