Scarlet Raptor women place eighth at NJAC Cross Country Championships

GALLOWAY, N.J. (Oct. 28, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's cross country team finished eighth and the Scarlet Raptor men didn't score as the programs competed here Saturday in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships at Stockton University.2023 NJAC Cross Country Championship logo
 
The women's 6K race was won by The College of New Jersey, which barely edged host Stockton University for the title, 50 points to 51 points. Ramapo's Dale Leonard won the 102-woman race in a time of 22:59.2.
 
Rutgers-Camden finished eighth of eight among scoring teams with 230 points, while one team (New Jersey City) did not score.
 
In the seven-team men's race, Rowan University posted a one-point victory over TCNJ, 33-34, to take home the title. Six teams scored, while the Scarlet Raptors had only two runners complete the 8K course, which was won by Stockton's Erick Ackerman (26:01.1). Out of the 95 men competing, seven did not finish, including three Scarlet Raptors.
 
Freshman Xochitl Bautista-Castelan led the Scarlet Raptor women for the first time this season, posting a time of 30:14.8 to place 71st overall, while sophomore Isabella Bordon finished second on the team and 78th overall in 31:28.0.
 
Freshmen Lindsay Lopez Trejo and Tiffany Chan finished 82nd and 85th, respectively, with times of 32:22.9 and 33:52.5. Senior Carly Malia finished fifth on the team and 87th overall (34:56.5), while freshman Mya Cabanas Montero rounded out the Raptor runners and placed 101st overall (47:34.3).
 
For the Raptor men, grad student David Morrow finished 70th overall (33:19.1). Patrick Dwamena, a sophomore academically with freshman eligibility for cross country, was the only other Raptor to finish, posting a PR time of 46:51.3 to place 88th.
 
The Scarlet Raptors will close their season Nov. 11 at the NCAA Metro Regionals, held at the Gloucester County Dream Park in Logn Township.
