Rutgers-Camden soccer schedules reunion of 2013 NCAA finalist team
CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 3, 2023) – It's been 10 years since the greatest season in the history of the Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer program.
As a result, Rutgers-Camden has scheduled a reunion of the 2013 team that advanced to the NCAA Division III finals in San Antonio, Texas, before completing their season with a 23-1-2 record. The Raptors finished with the highest final national ranking in program history, placing second in both the NSCAA and the D3soccer.com Top 25 polls.
During their October 21 home game against Montclair State University, the Scarlet Raptors will celebrate that 2013 team with a ceremony at halftime. Any member of the 2013 team is welcome to attend and is encouraged to
register for the reunion ceremony. Any other Scarlet Raptor alumni planning to attend also may register at the bottom of that form.
Rutgers-Camden advanced to the national final with a 3-2 semifinal victory over Loras College on an incredible long-range goal by Keegan Balle. The Scarlet Raptors battled defending national champion Messiah College into the second overtime in the title game before losing their only game of the season, 2-1.
Along the way, Taylor McGrory was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the NCAA Final Four, while joining teammates Joe Auletta, Mitch Grotti and Mike Ryan on the all-tournament team.
The 2013 season featured the Scarlet Raptors' third straight New Jersey Athletic Conference championship with a 2-0 win over Rutgers-Newark. In the NCAA tournament, after wins over Lycoming (4-0) and York (3-1), the Raptors earned a trip to the Final Four with a 2-1 Elite Eight victory over Montclair State.
Among the Scarlet Raptors' numerous post-season awards, Head Coach
Tim Oswald received Coach of the Year honors from six different organizations, including the NSCAA/FieldTurf National Coach of the Year and the NJAC Coach of the Year. Mike Ryan, Mitch Grotti and Mike Randall all earned All-America honors, while Grotti, Ryan and Joe Auleta earned NJAC First Team honors, Randall and Bobby Foster were named to the NJAC Second Team and Balle and Eric Cutry captured NJAC Honorable Mention.
Auleta also earned the NJAC's David Logar Leadership Award and joined Foster as an Academic All-American.
