CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 7, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day here Saturday on a windy, cold day at the Camden Athletic Complex, and the Scarlet Raptors celebrated in style.

Rutgers-Camden scored a goal in each half as it defeated Kean University, 2-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game. Prior to the game, the Scarlet Raptors also honored a quartet of athletes for Senior Day, celebrating the contributions of Alexa D'Ilio, Kayla McKeever, Lindsey Rodzon and Nikki TricocciSenior Day Photo Gallery

The win lifts the Scarlet Raptors to 6-5-1 overall and evens their NJAC mark at 2-2. The win also gives the Scarlet Raptors their most victories since 2018, when they went 8-9-2.

The Cougars fall to 3-7-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the NJAC.

Kean still leads the all-time series against Rutgers-Camden, 14-7-5, but the Scarlet Raptors are 5-0-2 in the last six meetings.

Playing with the advantage of a stiff wind in the opening half, Rutgers-Camden out-shot Kean, 7-1, and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. The Raptors jumped on the scoreboard in the 24th minute following a free kick by graduate student midfielder Jazmin Brown, which deflected in the box and eventually fell to sophomore forward Maresa Savarese. Savarese knocked in her team-leading sixth goal of the season and her first game-winning tally of the year. She had two game-winning goals during her stellar freshman season in 2922 when she earned NJAC Honorable Mention and was a two-time NJAC Rookie of the Week.

Rutgers-Camden added its insurance goal at 57:05 on a penalty kick, following a trip near the top of the box. Junior centerback Amy Maurer took the shot and scored her fourth goal, and second PK goal, of the season.

Rutgers-Camden finished with an 11-6 advantage in shots and a 6-1 margin in corner kicks. McKeever finished with two saves for her second shutout of the season, while Kean junior goalie Abigail Wing had five saves.

Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC play Saturday when it celebrates Senior Day by hosting Kean University at 1 p.m.
