WINTER HAVEN, Florida (March 14, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden softball team limited its opponents to six total runs in a pair of games here Tuesday at the PFX Spring Games.
Unfortunately for the Scarlet Raptors, they only scored three times as they lost to both Edgewood College, 3-2, and the University of Wisconsin-Stout, 3-1.
The Scarlet Raptors (1-7) have an off day scheduled for Wednesday at the PFX Spring Games. They will resume play on Thursday in Winter Haven, Florida. They will face Kalamazoo College at 2 p.m. and Nichols College at 4:30 p.m.
Edgewood 3, Rutgers-Camden 2
The Eagles, based in Madison, Wisconsin, raised their record to 8-5 behind the pitching of junior lefty Grace Pustina (3-4), who hurled six innings of two-hit ball, allowinv only two unearned runs. She walked two and struck out four.
Pustina had to be tough to out-duel Raptor sophomore
Lindsey Rodzon (1-4), who threw a five-hitter, allowing only one earned run out of the three scored against her. She also walked two and struck out four.
Pustina singled home the first run of the game in the second inning, but Rutgers-Camden took the lead in the top of the fifth with two unearned runs. The rally started when junior center fielder
Alexa McNee reached on a two-out infield error. Senior right fielder
Jayden Hunter walked and senior second baseman
Cate Petrucelli reached on an error, plating McNee and sending Hunter to third. The Raptors stole another run when Hunter swiped home as Petrucelli got caught in a rundown between first and second base.
Edgewood tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a single, a stolen base and a two-out error. The Eagles added the winning run in the sixth on a two-out error.
Edgewood junior second baseman Jenna Sanchez went 2-for-3 as the only player in the game with multiple hits.
Wisconsin-Stout 3, Rutgers-Camden 1
Wisconsin-Stout, based in Menomonie, Wisconsin, rode the pitching of sophomore Anna Blanford (2-3), who hurled a five-hitter, allowing only one unearned run and one walk, while striking out five.
The Blue Devils (3-9) scored all the runs they needed in the third inning on a hit batsman, a walk and a two-run double by freshman center fielder Payton Dolecki. They added their final run in the fourth inning after the leadoff batter struck out and reached base on a passed ball. Her pinch-runner eventually scored on a single by grad student left fielder Kaylee Peterson.
Rutgers-Camden scored its lone goal in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore left fielder
Emily Dubiago reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on a two-out error.
Sophomore third baseman
Luci Hutchinson went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles as the lone Raptor with two hits. In addition to Hutchinson, the only other Raptor with two hits on the day was Hunter, who collected a single in each game.
Senior
Rachel White (0-3) took the loss, working 3.1 innings and allowing four hits, three runs (two earned) and two walks. She struck out six. Rodzon pitched the final 3.2 innings, allowing only one hit while striking out three.
