CAMDEN, NJ (March 20, 2023) – Rutgers University-Camden right fielder Jacob Watson has provided a huge spark in the Scarlet Raptors' lineup during his freshman season and he was on a tear when the Scarlet Raptors visited Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, over their spring break.
 
Watson went 12-for-21 (.571) with a .583 on-base percentage as the Scarlet Raptors posted a 4-1 record last week at The Ripken Experience. As a result, he was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week today.
 
In addition to leading all Rutgers-Camden regulars in batting average and on-base percentage during the trip, he tied for the team lead down south with nine runs scored and eight RBIs. He also paced the team by stealing eight bases in nine attempts.
 
The Raptors' leadoff hitter most of the season, he leads the team with a .400 batting average, 17 runs scored and 14 stolen bases in 15 attempts. He also owns a 1.000 fielding percentage, with 20 putouts and one assist in his 21 chances.
 
In addition to his NJAC honor on Monday, he also was named Rutgers-Camden's Raptor of the Week.
 
Watson is the second Scarlet Raptor to earn NJAC baseball honors this spring. Freshman pitcher Gavin Cunard was named the NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week on March 6.
 
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Swarthmore College at 3:30 p.m.
