CAMDEN, N.J. (April 12, 2023) – The College of New Jersey men's tennis program has long been one of the top teams in the country and a powerhouse program in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
That fact wasn't lost on Rutgers University-Camden as the Scarlet Raptors dropped a 9-0 NJAC decision against the Lions here Wednesday.
Since joining the NJAC for men's tennis in 2019, Rutgers-Camden has played four times against TCNJ, losing 9-0 each time.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in the NJAC, while TCNJ improves to 10-3 overall and in the conference. Two of its three defeats have come against Top 40 teams, including a narrow 5-4 loss to #30-ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, while also owning a win over Division I Lafayette.
The Lions opened the competition by sweeping all three doubles matches, 8-0. Junior

Christopher Abacan played first singles for the Scarlet Raptors, while senior
Hani Qureshi and junior
Matthew Tepfer were on the second doubles team. The third doubles team was a pair of multi-sport athletes in sophomore
Sean Boen and senior
Patrick DeMareo, who also play on the Rutgers-Camden soccer and golf teams, respectively.
McWilliams Jr. also lost at first singles, 6-2, 6-1, while Boen dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision at fifth singles. The Raptors were swept, 6-0, 6-0, in the other four singles matches, with Abacan playing at the second flight, Qureshi competing at third singles and Tepfer in the fourth spot. DeMareo, the Raptors' top golfer who was playing his first tennis match, lost at sixth singles.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Friday with a match at Pratt Institute (Brooklyn, NY) before going to King's College (Wilkes-Barre, PA) on Sunday for a tri-match with King's and Elizabethtown College.
