Hilt, Marini showcase talents at Larry Ellis Invitational
PRINCETON, N.J. (April 14, 2023) – It isn't often that Division III athletes get to compete against Division I athletes on the track and field stage, but it isn't often DIII stars are as talented as Rutgers University-Camden throwers
Emily Hilt and
Alexis Marini.
Hilt, a senior, and Marini, a junior, took their skills in the hammer throw to the Larry Ellis Invitational here Friday at Princeton University, competing almost entirely against Division I throwers.
Hilt finished 11th in a field of 24 throwers with a mark of 50.61 meters, while Marini placed 17th with a hammer throw of 47.75 meters. Only four Division III athletes were competing in that field and the Raptor duo finished second and third among DIII throwers, while also beating many Division I competitors.
Hilt set the Rutgers-Camden program record earlier this year with a mark of 54.33 meters. Marini also had her PR this season at 48.00 meters, a mark she nearly tied at Princeton.
The majority of the Rutgers-Camden track team will compete Saturday at the Middlesex Invitational, which will be held in Piscataway.
