CAMDEN, N.J. (October 5, 2024) – The Rowan University women's soccer team scored a pair of goals within the opening nine minutes of the game and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 3-1, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Homecoming Day here Saturday.
The loss drops the Scarlet Raptors to 5-5-2 overall and 1-2 in NJAC play. Rowan, which received votes toward the United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 poll this week, improves to 8-0-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Profs also improved their all-time record against the Scarlet Raptors to 23-0-3.
Rowan scored only 5:31 into the game when senior forward Mackenzie Clement drove in from the left goal line and crossed to the near post, where junior forward Olivia Giordano finished off her ninth goal of the season.
Moments later, Clement notched her own goal on a shot from outside the top of the box. Her ninth goal of the season was assisted by sophomore midfielder Sara Wiedeman.
Clement added her 10th goal on a penalty kick with 7:17 remaining in the game, following a trip in the box.
Rutgers-Camden broke the Profs' shutout bid with 3:54 remaining on a 30-yard shot by freshman forward/midfielder
Asia Horne, which sailed over Rowan senior keeper Calista Burke and just under the crossbar. It was her fourth goal of the season, tying for the team lead.
Rowan held advantages of 15-9 in shots and 9-1 in corner kicks, although the shot advantage was only 9-8 in the second half. Raptor senior goalie

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. with a non-conference game at FDU-Florham.
