MADISON, N.J. (October 9, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer team notched second-half goals from seniors
Josie Jackson-Conner and
Alyssa Monti, while receiving shutout goalkeeping from senior
Michaela Graham as it posted a 2-0 non-conference win over FDU-Florham here Wednesday night.
The Scarlet Raptors improved to 6-5-2, snapping a two-game losing streak. The Devils lost their third straight game, falling to 6-7.
In the scoreless first half, both Graham and FDU-Florham junior goalie Ava Gianni collected three saves. The Scarlet Raptors held a 7-5 advantage in first-half shots, while the Devils held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Early in the second half, however, Rutgers-Camden pressured Gianni in the box and Jackson-Conner tapped in a loose ball at 49:00 for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. It was the 11th career goal and fifth career game-winning goal for the Raptor forward, including her first game winner this season.
The Raptors added an insurance tally in the 57th minute, courtesy of the first career goal by midfielder Monti. Following an FDU-Florham foul, she took a restart from about 23 yards out and hit a high shot over the defensive wall to the right side.
FDU-Florham finished with a 17-12 advantage in shots and an 11-2 lead in corner kicks, but Graham finished with nine saves to notch her fifth shutout. Gianni had five saves for the Devils.
Rutgers-Camden resumes its New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday. The Scarlet Raptors host Stockton University in a 1 p.m. Senior Day game.
