Rutgers-Camden golfers finish fourth at United East Preview

CHAMBERSBURG, Penn. (Oct. 7, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden golf team is looking to return to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2019 and the Scarlet Raptors had a preview Monday of the course that will be their ticket for a return trip.
 
The Scarlet Raptors finished fourth out of eight teams at the United East Preview, held at the Par 73, 6,962-yard Chambersburg Country Club. Rutgers-Camden shot a 337 score, beating out Penn State-Abington on the tie-breaking fifth man score.
 
The United East Championships will be held on the same course April 25-26, awarding a berth in the NCAA Division III Golf Championships to the winner.
 
Penn College shot a 320 to win the preview tournament by nine strokes over Penn State-Harrisburg. Penn College's Peyton Mussina was the medalist in a field of 37, shooting a 74.
 
Sophomore Santino Leone paced the Raptors with a round of 81, tying for sixth place. Junior Pearse Lee tied for 13th overall with a round of 83, while junior Reid Walker tied for 18th with an 85. Freshman Andrew Slattery shot an 88 to finish 22nd, while the Raptors' fifth golfer, junior Glenn Foley, tied for 24th with a 90.
 
The Scarlet Raptors swing right back into action on Tuesday when they play in the Alvernia University Invitational in Mohnton, Pennsylvania. The event begins at 12 p.m. at the LedgeRock Golf Club.
