CAMDEN, N.J. (March 22, 2024) – With numerous rainouts, cancelations and postponements, the Rutgers University-Camden men's tennis team only played one match during the 2023 fall semester.
The Scarlet Raptors opened their spring semester with better weather here Friday but lost an 8-1 decision against Eastern University. It was their first match since a Sept. 17 loss at Penn State-Brandywine.
Rutgers-Camden, 0-2, notched its only win at first doubles, 8-7 (7-5) behind the combination of senior
Edward McWilliams Jr. and freshman
John Brady. The second doubles team of sophomores
Christopher Abacan and
Thanh Ngo dropped an 8-3 decision, while the Raptors lost at third doubles, 8-0, with the team of freshman
Jeremy Young and senior
Tyrone King Jr.
McWilliams lost at first singles, 6-7 (0-7), 2-6, while Abacan lost his match at second singles, 0-6, 1-6. Ngo dropped a tight match at third singles, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 3-6, and Brady lost at fourth singles, 7-6 (5-7), 3-6. King was defeated in the fifth spot, 2-6, 0-6, and Young lost at sixth singles, 0-8.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Sunday at 12 p.m. when it plays its first match ever in the newly-aligned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The East Division match will take the Scarlet Raptors to The College of New Jersey to compete in a 12 p.m. battle.
