EWING, N.J. (March 24, 2024) – When the Rutgers University-Camden men's tennis team opened its first season in the newly-aligned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference here Sunday, the Scarlet Raptors had the unenviable task of facing Eastern Division powerhouse The College of New Jersey.
The Lions swept past the Scarlet Raptors, 9-0, to raise their record to 8-0 overall and 1-0 in WIAC play.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Senior
Edward McWilliams Jr. and freshman
John Brady took the only doubles point against TCNJ, losing at the top spot, 8-1. Both the second doubles team of sophomores
Christopher Abacan and
Thanh Ngo, and the third doubles team of senior
Tyrone King Jr. and freshman
Jeremy Young, dropped 8-0 decisions.
In singles play, Brady was the lone Raptor to earn a point, dropping 6-1, 6-0 match at the fourth flight. The Scarlet Raptors were swept, 6-0, 6-0 at the other five singles spots, with McWilliams playing at the top position, Abacan playing at second singles, Ngo playing third singles, King Jr. manning the fifth flight and Young playing in the sixth spot.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at Arcadia University.
