Four Raptors compete on first day of TCNJ Invite and Multi
EWING, N.J. (April 11, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden track program opened up a three-day trip to the TCNJ Invite and Multi meet here Thursday by sending four athletes to compete in multiple events.
Sophomore
Walter Pierce became the first Rutgers-Camden track athlete to ever compete in the decathlon, as he participated in the first five events. On the women's side, a trio of Raptors opened the first day of the heptathlon, with juniors
Isabella Bordon and
Alyson Petro, and freshman
Kaitlyn Novak competing in four events. Petro, who competed in the event three times during the 2022 season, was the only one with experience in the heptathlon.
Pierce finished fourth of five athletes in the 100-meter dash (11.95), third of five in the long jump (5.17 meters), fifth of five in the shot put (9.30 meters), third of four in the high jump (1.56 meters) and third of four in the 400-meter dash (56.09).
In the 13-athlete women's 100-meter hurdles, Petro finished 11th (19.23), Bordon was 12th (22.26) and Novak was 13th (22.74). In the high jump field, Petro was seventh (1.44 meters), Bordon was eighth (1.41 meters) and Novak had no height.
Novak finished third of 13 in the shot put (8.61 meters), while Bordon was 11th (6.66 meters) and Petro was 12th (6.59 meters). In the fourth event of the day, the 200-meter dash, Bordon finished 11th of 13 (30.68), Petro was 12th (31.59) and Novak was 13th (32.53).
On Friday, Pierce will compete in the final five decathlon events, the 110-meter hurdles, the discus throw, the pole vault, the javelin throw and the 1,500-meter run.
The Raptor women will compete in the heptathlon's final three events, the long jump, the javelin and the 800-meters.
The rest of the Rutgers-Camden outdoor track program also will join that quartet at the TCNJ Invite and Multi meet on Friday and Saturday.
