CAMDEN, N.J. (April 8, 2024) – Rutgers University-Camden freshman Cian Phillips (Arvada, CO/Wheat Ridge) earned his first collegiate decision on Sunday, picking up the win during a relief appearance against #21-ranked The College of New Jersey.

Phillips added his first collegiate honor today when the New Jersey Athletic Conference recognized its top athletes of the week.

Phillips was named the NJAC Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week after his scoreless two-inning relief appearance on Sunday helped the Scarlet Raptors to an 11-4 win at The College of New Jersey. He hit two batters but didn't allow a walk or a hit in his outing as he helped turn the tide of a 4-4 game and set the stage for Raptor hurlers to pitch shutout ball the rest of the way.

Phillips became the third NJAC honoree this season and the second NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week, an honor that Anthony Angelo Jr. won on March 18. Rutgers-Camden also had the NJAC Player of the Week on March 18, when sophomore left fielder Jacob Watson was recognized for his accomplishments.

A Business major at Rutgers-Camden, Phillips has appeared in three games, covering four innings, this season. He has yet to allow a hit, walk or run, while striking out five. His contributions have helped the Scarlet Raptors to an 18-6 record, including a 5-1 start in the NJAC.

During his scholastic days at Wheat Ridge High School in Colorado, Phillips was a First Team All-Conference player as a senior and earned All-Conference Honorable Mention as a sophomore. A multi-sport athlete, he also was a two-year letterman on the golf team.
