Marini earns berth on Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area Track Team
CAMDEN, NJ (June 24, 2024) – Rutgers University-Camden senior
Alexis Marini (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) has been named to the 11-member Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area Women's Track and Field Team.
The Philly-SIDA (Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-Area teams are voted on by the sports information offices of 30 institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. To be eligible for Academic All-Area, an athlete must be at least in their second year at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better.
Marini, a standout weight thrower who was the New Jersey Athletic Conference hammer champion this spring, was a dual Economics and Philosophy major who posted a 3.951 GPA during her career at Rutgers-Camden. She will be attending the University of Georgia School of Law in the fall.

Amy Maurer (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) was a member of the Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area Women's Soccer Team.
A standout student-athlete, Marini has earned USTFCCCA All-Academic and All-Metro Region honors during her career. She added New Jersey Athletic Conference Academic Second Team recognition for the 2023-24 scholastic year after winning NJAC Academic Honorable Mention for both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 scholastic years. She also was a member of the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director's Honor Roll and a member of the Dean's List during all eight of her semesters on campus. During five of those semesters, she posted a 4.0 GPA, including the 2024 Spring semester.
As an athlete, Marini capped her senior season as the NJAC hammer champion and earned two honors as the NJAC Field Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season (April 15 and May 15). She was named the Rutgers-Camden Raptor of the Week on May 6, marking the seventh Raptor of the Week honor during her career. She also received that honor during indoor season on Jan. 15 during this scholastic year.
In addition to earning NJAC First Team honors for her hammer championship, Marini captured NJAC Honorable Mention in the weight throw during the 2023-24 indoor season. She also earned NJAC Honorable Mention in the hammer throw during the 2023 outdoor season.
A force in the discus and shot put as well, Marini set the program's discus record of 37.81 meters on April 21, 2023.
During the 2022 ECAC Championships, she finished second in the discus, third in the hammer and fourth in the shot put.
