NEWARK, N.J. (Sept. 7, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team spent plenty of time applying pressure to the New York University defense here Saturday in a game played at New Jersey Institute of Technology.
In the end, however, it was the Violets that scored the game's lone goal as NYU came away with a 1-0 victory to raise its record to 2-0-1. Rutgers-Camden falls to 3-1, with every game being decided by a 1-0 score.
The Scarlet Raptors held a 19-9 advantage in shots and a 10-4 lead in shots on goal. NYU held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks, although Rutgers-Camden had a 2-1 margin in the second half.
Late in the game, NYU senior forward Nathan Bennett took a shot from the left side of the penalty area that angled into the back right side of the net. His third goal of the season came at 80:52.
NYU sophomore goalie Jackson McCloskey made 10 saves in the contest to post the shutout. Raptor senior goalie
Sean Boen finished with three saves as his streak of three straight shutouts was snapped. His season-opening shutout string ended at 350:52 minutes.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Saturday with a 2 p.m. road game against New York University. The game will be played at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Wednesday with a 7 p.m. game at Arcadia University.
