CAMDEN, N.J. (September 7, 2024) – Throughout most of the second half, the Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer defense was able to survive numerous threats by the University of Mary Washington.
With 3:40 remaining in the contest, however, the Eagles finally found the net, resulting in a 1-0 non-conference victory here Saturday.
Mary Washington improves to 2-0-1, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-3-1.
The Eagles held a 12-2 advantage in shots during the second half and a 16-3 margin for the game, but a stalwart defensive effort by the Scarlet Raptors came close to earning a 0-0 tie. With time winding down, dangerous sophomore forward Maci Landel took a restart from near the left touchline and sent the ball into the box, where senior midfielder Eliza Franklin scored off a scramble near the goal. It was her second goal of the season and first game winner.
Mary Washington also finished with a 5-3 lead in corner kicks, including a 4-2 second-half margin.

Michaela Graham made nine saves in the game, with eight of them coming in the second half.
Mary Washington junior goalie Adriana Thompson earned the shutout without making a save.
The Rutgers-Camden women play a road game Wednesday with a 4 p.m. contest at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland.
