Raptors' Thomasson earns NJAC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 13, 2025) – Freshman
Talia Thomasson (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) normally serves as a winger for the Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer team, but she was forced her to play as an outside back Saturday at Stockton University due to an illness on the team.
Not only did Thomasson help the Scarlet Raptors post a big New Jersey Athletic Conference shutout over the Ospreys, but her first career goal proved to be the game winner in Rutgers-Camden's 1-0.
Thomasson's impact on the game helped her earn NJAC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week honors when the conference announced its weekly award winners Monday.
Thomasson scored the deciding goal in the 55th minute, collecting the rebound of a blocked shot and finishing into the upper right corner. Her shot gave the Scarlet Raptors their first conference win of the season, lifting Rutgers-Camden to 1-2-1 in the NJAC and 2-5-6 overall. It marked only the fourth time Rutgers-Camden has defeated Stockton in the all-time series. The Ospreys hold a 20-4-5 mark against Rutgers-Camden, although the Scarlet Raptors are 2-1-1 in the last four meetings.
For the week, Thomasson helped Rutgers-Camden post a 1-0-1 record, including a 1-1 tie against FDU-Florham on Wednesday night.
Thomasson has appeared in all 13 games for the Scarlet Raptors this season, starting seven.
A multi-sport star at West Deptford High School, Thomasson captured four varsity letters apiece in soccer, indoor track and outdoor track during her scholastic career. She was a two-time All-Conference First team soccer player and earned both All-Conference Second Team and First Team honors during her final two track seasons.
A Health Sciences major at Rutgers-Camden, Thomasson becomes the third Scarlet Raptor to earn NJAC weekly honors this season. Freshman goalie
