CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 15, 2025) – After a big road victory on Saturday at Stockton University, the Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer team continued its strong late-season play here Wednesday in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
Despite a standout effort, however, the Scarlet Raptors watched The College of New Jersey score a late second-half goal and that proved to be enough for the two-time defending NJAC champions to edge Rutgers-Camden, 1-0.
The loss drops the Scarlet Raptors to 2-6-6 overall and 1-3-1 in the NJAC. The Lions improve to 6-4-4 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play.
TCNJ increased its lead over Rutgers-Camden to 24-1 in the all-time series, including 21 straight wins, but this victory didn't come easily for the Lions. The game was scoreless most of the way, although TCNJ missed a chance to break the tie in the 70th minute when sophomore midfielder Maggie Murphy hit the upper right post.
The Lions outshot the Scarlet Raptors, 11-2, in the game, including 6-0 in the second half, but didn't get the winning goal until 9:27 remaining in regulation. Murphy took a short corner kick to the near side of the top of the box and junior midfielder/forward Alyssa Alfano angled a shot into the far right panel. It was her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Sophomore goalie Ellen Williams earned the shutout for TCNJ, making one save. Freshman goalie
Giselle Lizardi made three saves for Rutgers-Camden.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action on Saturday with a 12 p.m. NJAC game at New Jersey City University.
