CAMDEN, N.J. (Nov. 1, 2025) – On a day when a strong wind made the playing conditions difficult at the Camden Athletic Complex, it was a high wind-blown shot that proved to be the difference as fifth-seeded New Jersey City University eliminated fourth-seeded Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference quarterfinal game here Saturday.
NJCU, which improves to 11-6-2, advances to the NJAC semifinals, where it will play a 7 p.m. game Tuesday at top-seeded Montclair State University. The Gothic Knights lost a 3-0 decision in Montclair on September 27.
Rutgers-Camden closes its season at 4-8-7, marking the second time in three years the Scarlet Raptors were eliminated in the NJAC quarterfinals by NJCU. The Raptors lost by that same 1-0 score in 2023 in Jersey City.
Earlier in the season the Scarlet Raptors and Gothic Knights played to a 1-1 tie in Jersey City. The Gothic Knights' win sliced Rutgers-Camden's lead in the all-time series to 19-8-1.
The lone goal of the game came in the first half when NJCU freshman forward Isabella Ramirez lofted a high, looping shot from about 30 yards out that found the top of the goal just under the crossbar. It was her fifth goal of the season and her first game winner.
NJCU finished with a slight 10-9 advantage in shots, while Rutgers-Camden had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Raptor freshman goalie
Giselle Lizardi made eight saves, while Gothic Knight senior keeper Sophia Mannino had six.
