Pierce breaks his own program pentathlon mark at Ursinus meet
COLLEGEVILLE, Penn. (Feb. 8, 2025) – Rutgers University-Camden junior
Walter Pierce broke his own program record in the pentathlon to lead the Scarlet Raptors' indoor track teams at the Frank Colden Invitational Saturday at Ursinus College.
Pierce finished third out of 10 athletes in the pentathlon, rolling up 2,654 points to break the mark of 2,435 he set at the same event on Feb. 3, 2024. Along the way, he finished first in both the 60-meter hurdles (9.36) and the shot put (10.90 meters), fourth in the high jump (1.61 meters) and the 1,000-meter run (3:09.96) and eighth in the long jump (5.11 meters). His marks in the shot put and the 1,000 meters both set a PR.
In the 32-athlete field of the men's weight throw, sophomore
Dyheim Watson finished 15th (12.51 meters), while placing 14th of 51 in the shot put (a PR of 12.46 meters).
Other fine performances by the Scarlet Raptors included a pair of freshmen who had strong outings in men's track events.
Antonio Busbee finished 27th of 56 in the 200-meter dash (a PR of 24.76) and
Kristopher Ewell placed 11th of 39 at 800 meters (a PR of 2:06.26).
Freshman
Marcus Brown made his Rutgers-Camden track debut and finished 46th of 58 in the 60-meter dash (7.95) and 43rd of 56 at 200 meters (25.91).
On the women's side, junior
Evelyn Macias Pilco had a strong showing in two events, placing 18th of 23 in the long jump (a PR of 4.27 meters) and 30th of 41 in the 200-meter dash (30.66).
Sophomore
Sydnie Marshall finished 23rd of 48 in the 60-meter dash (a PR of 8.57), one day after setting the Rutgers-Camden program record in the 200-meter dash (27.20) at the FastTrack National Invitational.
Sophomore
A'Maya Stanard posted a PR of 1:06.98 at 400 meters as she finished 16th of 32 athletes.
Rutgers-Camden will compete in the Widener Indoor Classic on Friday and Saturday. The weight throw and shot put will be held on Friday at Widener, beginning at 3 p.m. The remaining events will be held Saturday at The University of Pennsylvania's Ott Center, beginning at 3 p.m.
