CAMDEN, N.J. (March 1, 2025) – Senior pitcher
Ethan Carpenter hurled five shutout innings and the Rutgers University-Camden offense erupted for 13 hits and 10 runs as the Scarlet Raptors defeated Swarthmore College, 10-4, in a non-conference baseball game on a cold, windy afternoon here Saturday.
The victory lifts the Raptors to 4-1 in the early season and marks the fourth time in five games that Rutgers-Camden has scored in double digits.
Swarthmore falls to 3-3.
Carpenter raised his record to 2-0 with five innings of three-hit shutout ball. He walked one and struck out five while his teammates gave him plenty of offensive support.
Rutgers-Camden scored three runs in the first inning off Swarthmore junior Noah Potholm (1-1), with the rally starting on a bunt single by junior left fielder
Jacob Watson, the Raptors' leadoff man. He stole second base on a strikeout and went to third on a single by junior second baseman
Frankie Romond. Senior designated hitter
Jack Murphy was hit by a pitch to load the bases and senior first baseman
Diego Salazar singled through the left side of the infield to plate Watson. One out later, sophomore right fielder
Brandon Petrick hit a two-run single to right center.
The Raptors plated two more runs in the third on two hits, two walks and a hit batsman. Senior shortstop

Julian Gonzalez had singles in the inning, but runs were forced home when Watson was hit by a pitch and senior center fielder
Steven Shaffer walked.
The Scarlet Raptors made it an 8-0 game with a three-run bottom of the fourth, plating three runs against Swarthmore freshman reliever Ian Born. The first four Raptors singled, led by Murphy and Salazar. Senior third baseman
Ryan Nutley had an RBI single and junior
Isaiah Pinkney hit a pinch-hit RBI single. Gonzalez capped the rally by squeezing home Nutley on a sacrifice bunt.
The Raptors made it 9-0 in the fifth inning when Shaffer singled, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a ground out by Romond.
After Swarthmore scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning, Rutgers-Camden added its final run in the bottom of the frame on two hits and a hit batsman. Watson singled home the run.
Watson finished the day going 2-for-3 with one run, two RBIs and one stolen base. Gonzalez went 2-for-2 with one RBI and one stolen base, while Salazar went 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI. Petrick went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Junior right fielder Aidan Sullivan had the only multi-hit game for Swarthmore, going 2-for-4 with one run. Senior shortstop Max Roffwarg went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action on Tuesday night when they host Penn State-Abington at 6 p.m.
