Stockton eliminates Scarlet Raptors in NJAC women's tennis semifinals

GALLOWAY, N.J. (April 23, 2025) –The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team qualified for the New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs for the fifth straight season this spring, but for the fifth straight year, that trip ended in the semifinals.

Second-seeded Stockton University edged Rutgers-Camden, 4-3, here Wednesday to end the Scarlet Raptors' season with a 10-7 record. Stockton advances to the NJAC championship match, which will be held at top-seeded The College of New Jersey at 12 p.m. on Saturday. TCNJ, which has never lost an NJAC match, eliminated Rutgers-Camden in the semifinals in each of the last three seasons.

With Stockton shorthanded and unable to field a third doubles team or the fifth and sixth singles spots, Rutgers-Camden earned forfeits at those positions. Freshman Emma D'Amico and junior Bryn Kelleher won by forfeit at third doubles, while junior co-captain Ashton Sirko and D'Amico captured forfeit wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

The forfeit at third doubles meant the Scarlet Raptors needed only one doubles victory on the court to earn the lone point for doubles. They got that win at second doubles, where freshmen Grace Albert and Jilliane Jaugan posted a 6-1 win. Rutgers-Camden lost at first doubles, 6-3, with the team of junior co-captains Katie Moore and Sirko.

Stockton won the four contested singles matches. Jaugan dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision at first singles, while Moore lost at second singles, 6-1, 6-2. At third singles, Albert lost a marathon decision, winning the first set, 6-4, and dropping the next two sets, 7-6 (7-3) and 6-2. Kelleher lost at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-4.

Jaugan finished her fine rookie year with a 7-9 record, all at first singles, while posting a team-best 13-4 mark in doubles. The top singles mark was the 12-5 mark by Kelleher, mainly coming at fourth singles (7-3). Sirko went 10-4 in singles, with a 6-2 mark coming at the fifth spot, while D'Amico posted a 9-3 singles mark, including 7-2 at sixth singles. Moore went 8-8 in singles play, including 1-0 at the top spot and 7-8 at second singles.

Moore and Sirko, three-year veterans on the team, continued their climb up the program's career victory chart. Moore finished the season with 25 career singles wins, tied for fifth in program history, while Sirko is tied for ninth at 23. In doubles play, Moore has 28 wins, the program's fourth-highest total, while Sirko is 10th with 21. That pair has combined for 13 doubles wins, the sixth-highest total for a doubles team in program history, and only two shy of tying for the record.

Moore's 53 total wins (singles and doubles) rank fourth on the career charts. Sirko is 10th with 44 total wins.

Kelleher's 12 singles wins tie for the fifth-highest single-season total in program history, while Jaugan's 13 doubles victories are the fifth-highest single-season total.
