Raptors tied for third on first day of United East Golf Championships
CHAMBERSBURG, Penn. (April 25, 2025) – If the Rutgers University-Camden golf team is hoping to capture the United East Conference Championships tomorrow, the Scarlet Raptors have ground to make up on the final day.
Rutgers-Camden shot a first-day round of 338 at the two-day event and found itself 14 strokes behind leader Penn College (324), sitting in a tie for third place with Penn State-Harrisburg in the nine-team conference event. Penn College's Will Orwig was the first-day leader with an even-par 73.
The championships, hosted by Wilson College, are being held at the Par 73, 6,801-yard Chambersburg Country Club.
Junior
Reid Walker was the first-round leader for Rutgers-Camden, shooting an 8-over par 81 to stand in sixth place in the 43-man field. Both sophomore
Santino Leone and freshman
Andrew Slattery carded rounds of 85, tied for 13th place, while junior
Pearse Lee shot an 87 and was in a tie for 18th place . Junior
Glenn Foley turned in a first-day round of 89 and is sitting in a tie for 22nd place.
In its three years in the United East Conference, Rutgers-Camden has finished fourth at the conference meet all three times. Prior to that, the Scarlet Raptors were a powerhouse in the North East Athletic Conference, winning the NEAC title in 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019. The Raptors were the NEAC runner-up in 2011, 2012, 2018 and 2021. There wasn't any championship held during the Covid 19 spring of 2020.
The winner of the United East Championships will advance to the NCAA Division III Championships, which will be held at the Midvale Country Club in Penfield, New York, from May 20-23.
