JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Jan. 14, 2026) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team has had its struggles against New Jersey City University over the past few years, but those struggles vanished here Wednesday night in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
Rutgers-Camden took the lead for good early in the opening quarter and went on to post an 82-62 over NJCU.
The win ended a streak of 11 straight losses against NJCU in the all-time series, dating back to the Raptors' last victory, a 79-60 decision in Camden on January 12, 2019, Rutgers-Camden still leads the all-time series, 40-35.
The Scarlet Raptors improved to 8-7 overall and 5-3 in NJAC play, while NJCU fell to 5-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
The Scarlet Raptors went ahead to stay at 5-4 on a three-point field goal by junior guard
Gabriella Toledo and by the end of the first quarter held a 15-9 advantage, led by four points apiece from freshman guard
Tamyia Collier and junior guard/forward
Tamea El. By halftime, El and Collier both had eight points as the Scarlet Raptors held a 31-20 advantage. El also had 10 first-half rebounds.
Rutgers-Camden led, 54-37, after three quarters.
El, a first-year Scarlet Raptor after playing two seasons at Goldey Beacom College, finished with her second double-double of the season. She had her Raptor career highs in both rebounds (19) and points (19).
Sophomore forward
Courtney Edmundo also added a double-double, her sixth of the season and the 13th of her young career. She finished with 19 points and had a career-high 16 rebounds, while also setting a career high of seven assists.
Toledo notched 13 points and freshman forward
Zairra Galloway added 10.
NJCU received 19 points apiece from junior guard Na'tori Postell and sophomore guard Meghan Gentile. Junior forward Autumn John added 14 points.
Rutgers-Camden shot 27-for-77 (35.1 percent) from the floor and 19-for-24 (79.2) from the foul line, while NJCU went 20-for-61 (32.8) and 16-for-23 (69.6), respectively. The Scarlet Raptors held a huge 61-38 advantage off the boards.
Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. home game against William Paterson University.
