CAMDEN, N.J. (Jan. 17, 2026) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's basketball team received 25 points from senior forward
Cameron Downs as it defeated William Paterson University,75-65, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday afternoon.
The Scarlet Raptors snapped a three-game losing streak, hiking their record to 8-7 overall and 3-6 in NJAC play. The Pioneers lost their fifth straight game, falling to 6-10 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
The victory marked the Scarlet Raptors' fifth straight win against the Pioneers, although Paterson still leads the all-time series, 68-13.
With the score tied at 42-42 early in the second half, the Scarlet Raptors ran off 13 straight points to open up the game. They took the lead for good on a layup by freshman forward
Makai Crawford, who along with Downs had four of the Raptors' points in the run.
The Scarlet Raptors led by as many as 14 points (68-54 and 75-61) down the stretch.
Downs shot 9-for-15 from the floor, including 1-for-3 from three-point range, and went 6-for-10 from the foul line as he raised his career total to 1,467 points. He also added a game-high eight rebounds and tied with junior guard and teammate
Noah Richmond for a game-high three steals.
Sophomore guard
Ryan Senft netted 11 points, senior guard
Eric Benjamin scored nine points and had a game-high five assists, and freshman guard/forward
Gardy Etienne also scored nine points.
William Paterson received 24 points from sophomore guard Jack Gobel, including 12-for-13 shooting from the foul line.
The Scarlet Raptors shot 23-for-53 (49.1 percent) from the floor and 21-for-35 (60.0) from the foul line. Paterson went 23-for-56 (41.1) from the floor and 17-for-21 (81.0) from the line.
Rutgers-Camden held a 38-31 advantage off the boards.
Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC action on Wednesday, playing an 8 p.m. NJAC game at Rutgers-Newark.
